Baseball Recap: Ponca City Comes Up Short

Ponca City extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-21. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Guthrie Bluejays. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bluejays this season, with their most recent defeat being a 6-5 loss on April 3rd.

As for Guthrie, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

For Guthrie's part, Daelon Rice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits. Rice has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Guthrie saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Vaughan, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Coming up, Ponca City will look to defend their home field on Friday against Southmoore at 6:00 p.m. Guthrie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
