Soccer Game Preview: Spackenkill vs. Marlboro Central

The Spackenkill Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Marlboro Central Dukes at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

On Wednesday, Spackenkill didn't have quite enough to beat Wallkill and fell 3-2. While losing is never fun, Spackenkill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York soccer rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Wallkill are ranked 39th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Marlboro Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past Poughkeepsie 6-0 on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what Marlboro Central needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Marlboro Central's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-8. As for Spackenkill, they have now lost four of their last five games at home. Despite that, they're 4-4 this season.

Everything went Spackenkill's way against Marlboro Central in their most recent meeting on October 7, 2024 two seasons ago, as Spackenkill made off with a 10-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
