Basketball Recap: Stratford Falls Despite Big Games from Oliver Smithwick and Carson Owens

Stratford and Wewoka squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Stratford had to settle for second. They came up short against the Wewoka Tigers, falling 69-43. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Stratford's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carson Owens, who posted 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, and Oliver Smithwick, who went 7-for-10 en route to 18 points and five boards. Owens has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played.

Stratford has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. Wewoka's win bumped their record up to 8-16.

As of now, neither Stratford nor Wewoka have any future games scheduled.
