Baseball Game Preview: Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes vs. DuQuoin Indians

The Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes will take on the DuQuoin Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Zeigler-Royalton is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.

Zeigler-Royalton proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Christ Our Rock Lutheran a 2-0 shutout.

Zeigler-Royalton's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chase Cole, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, DuQuoin fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Nashville on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 2-1.

Zeigler-Royalton pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for DuQuoin, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Zeigler-Royalton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like DuQuoin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
