Baseball Recap: Schaumburg Christian Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Schaumburg Christian took a 18-run loss the last time they faced off against Harvest Christian Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Conquerors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lions 10-9. Considering the Conquerors' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jake Vandermeir made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Vandermeir was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Broyles, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Takefumi Onishi also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Schaumburg Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Schaumburg Christian's third in a row) raised their record to 5-11. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Harvest Christian Academy, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 14-11.

Coming up, Schaumburg Christian will challenge Parkview Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Conquerors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Harvest Christian Academy, they will face off against Christian Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
