Basketball Recap: Academy of Central Florida Golden Bulls vs. Southland Christian FLAMES
Academy of Central Florida and Southland Christian squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Academy of Central Florida had to settle for second. They were dealt an 87-50 defeat at the hands of the Southland Christian FLAMES. While losing is never fun, the Golden Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the FLAMES are ranked 91st).
Southland Christian found their leader in sophomore Sebastian Rivera, who went 12-for-15 en route to 33 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Rivera a new career-high in shooting accuracy (80%). Carlos Escalera Jr. was another key player, going 6-for-11 to rack up 12 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.
Academy of Central Florida dropped their record down to 5-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Southland Christian, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 25-3.
