Football Game Preview: North Pontotoc Vikings vs. Corinth Warriors

The North Pontotoc Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Corinth Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Pontotoc will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

North Pontotoc gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They snuck past New Albany with a 26-22 victory. Those 26 points were actually the fewest the Vikings have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Drew Winfun produced another solid performance throwing for 276 yards and three TDs while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushing for 119 yards and one score. Those 276 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Dee Slaughter also helped with two touchdowns in total.

North Pontotoc's run defense was locked in: New Albany could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Levi Gooch for the heroic effort on defense: he. North Pontotoc didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.9.

North Pontotoc's defense didn't let Braden Shettles, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. New Albany's QB won't forget Gooch anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Meanwhile, while Corinth put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for South Pontotoc. The Warriors simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cougars 63-0. That 63 point margin sets a new team best for the Warriors this season.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Corinth, adding 15 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Patrick Crump Jr., who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

North Pontotoc's record is now 5-0. As for Corinth, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

North Pontotoc might still be hurting after the 33-10 loss they got from Corinth in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
