Softball Recap: Elkhart Finds Playoff Glory Versus Concord

It's playoff time, and Elkhart had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Concord Minutemen on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Laci Stimac was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Stimac was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Elkhart got a big performance out of Addison Reid, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Ambria Leedy, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Elkhart hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Elkhart is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Concord, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-11.

Coming up, Elkhart will square off against Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. Concord does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
