Preview: Severance Silver Knights vs. Fort Morgan Mustangs
Severance is 4-0 against Fort Morgan since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Severance Silver Knights will be home for the holidays to greet the Fort Morgan Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Severance is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fort Morgan in Colorado (Severance is ranked 99th, while Fort Morgan is ranked 303rd).
The third road match was the charm for Severance, as they earned their first road win of the season. They blew past Niwot 59-36. That looming 59-36 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Severance yet this season.
Blake Varney and Ryan Ewoniuk were among the main playmakers for Severance as the former scored 16 points and the latter went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists. That's the first time this season that Ewoniuk scored 15 or more points. Brady Varney was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Fort Morgan, who are still winless after their seventh match. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brush on Saturday.
Severance now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Fort Morgan, they bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything went Severance's way against Fort Morgan in their previous meeting back in February as Severance made off with a 87-62 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Fort Morgan's Wesley Carnes, who scored 34 points. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Severance to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
