Basketball Game Preview: Pateros Billygoats/Nannies vs. Waterville Shockers

The Pateros Billygoats/Nannies will take on the Waterville Shockers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Waterville will be up against a hot Pateros team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. Pateros took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 62-18 win over Wilson Creek. The squad ran away with 50 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waterville). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Soap Lake 76-19. Given the Shockers' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Eagles are ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pateros' win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.2 points over those games. As for Waterville, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.

Pateros didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Waterville in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 41-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pateros since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
