Baseball Game Preview: Plainview Hornets vs. South Cameron Tarpons

Plainview is a perfect 3-0 against South Cameron since February of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Plainview Hornets will look to defend their home field against the South Cameron Tarpons at 4:00 p.m. Plainview will be strutting in after a win while South Cameron will be coming in after a defeat.

Plainview will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Alexandria Country Day on Tuesday. Plainview was the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Alexandria Country Day. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hornets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Dallas Harrison made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Plainview is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Harrison was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Plainview let Caleb Calhoun and Gavin Perkins run wild. Calhoun scored two runs and stole Six bases. while going 2-for-3, while Perkins went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Plainview is undefeated when Calhoun posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gavin Fee, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Plainview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for South Cameron's offense. They lost 15-0 to Reeves on Tuesday. The Tarpons have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meetings.

South Cameron now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Plainview, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

Plainview took their victory against South Cameron in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 13-0. Does Plainview have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Cameron turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
