Baseball Game Preview: Colfax Vikings vs. Clear Lake Warriors

The Colfax Vikings will challenge the Clear Lake Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Colfax is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Colfax fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Glenwood City on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hilltoppers.

Jimmy Hobein put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Hobein was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ethan Schindler made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Chase Albricht was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clear Lake, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Mondovi by a score of 10-7 on Thursday. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Like Colfax, Clear Lake also got a great game from a two-way player: Kasey Becker. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Becker has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. He also got a hit, marking his first of the season.

Becker wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Lundgren, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Lundgren is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another was Ryan Prestrud, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Clear Lake's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Colfax, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
