Basketball Game Preview: St. Paul Wildcats vs. Wood River Eagles

The St. Paul Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Wood River Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Paul will be strutting in after a victory while Wood River will be coming in after a loss.

It was a proper cat-fight when St. Paul challenged Doniphan-Trumbull on Saturday. St. Paul came out on top against Doniphan-Trumbull by a score of 39-31. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Charlee Wegner and Aubree Fitzgerald were among the main playmakers for St. Paul as the former posted 15 points and eight steals and the latter almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Those 12 points gave Fitzgerald a new career-high. Zaya Lewis was another key player, putting up two points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, Wood River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 64-54 to Adams Central.

Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for St. Paul, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

St. Paul ended up a good deal behind Wood River in their previous meeting back in February, losing 52-33. Can St. Paul avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
