Baseball Recap: Prairie Takes a Loss

Prairie extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-8 in the process. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clearwater Valley Rams. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Rams this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-5 loss last Wednesday.

Prairie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devon Poxleitner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

As for Clearwater Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games.

On Clearwater Valley's side, Conner Christensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. Christensen has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Barak Meyer, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Clearwater Valley: the team is 14-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Schilling, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

While Prairie had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
