Baseball Recap: Bellaire Sets Scoring Season-High Against Union Local

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bellaire). They put the hurt on the Union Local Jets with a sharp 14-8 victory on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Big Reds considering their two-run performance the match before.

Luke Heatherington made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Heatherington was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Bellaire let Landon Preston and Scott Balsei run wild. Preston went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Balsei got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Preston also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Riley Zonker was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs.

Bellaire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Bellaire and bumps their season record up to 3-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Union Local, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Jets beat Bellaire by a score of 14-4 on Monday.
