Softball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Southwest

Southwest waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Dr. Krop Lightning with a sharp 21-1 victory. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 win the Lightning walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.

Tatiana Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Southwest got a massive performance out of Sofia Valdes, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Valdes hit this season. Sannaya Pardey was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Southwest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive contests.

Southwest's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Dr. Krop, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest will host Miami at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dr. Krop, they will look to defend their home field on the 10th against South Dade at 3:30 p.m.
