Indian Creek is 0-10 against Edgewood since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Braves will welcome the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Indian Creek took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sullivan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Braves came out on top in a nail-biter against the Golden Arrows on Tuesday, sneaking past 8-7. The game was the first time the Braves have beaten the Golden Arrows on their field since May 16, 2017.
Delaney Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Amelia Woodke was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Kelsey Campbell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Edgewood faced Terre Haute North Vigo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Patriots 3-2. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.
Edgewood also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: ALLY BLAND gave up just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. Those hits marked the first that BLAND allowed this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on OLIVIA McPHERSON, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Edgewood's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Indian Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Indian Creek hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Indian Creek suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Edgewood when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Braves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
