Softball Game Preview: Riverside Ram vs. Lightridge Bolts

For the second straight game, Riverside will face off against Lightridge. The Ram will be playing at home against the Bolts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Riverside 3.6, Lightridge 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Riverside is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Lightridge, who was ranked second at the time (Riverside was ranked 23rd). The Ram fell 7-2 to the Bolts on Tuesday. The Ram's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For Lightridge's part, Peyton Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits. Robinson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avery Sullivan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maya Thaivalappil, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

The victory keeps Lightridge at an undefeated 19-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average this season. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
