London is 8-1 against Hebbronville since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The London Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hebbronville Longhorns at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
London took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Orange Grove as London made off with an 11-1 win. Considering the Pirates have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Noah Cervantes looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Aiden Salinas and Christian Olivares did most of the damage at the plate: Salinas scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4, while Olivares went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Max Carreon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
London always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orange Grove only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hebbronville). They never let IDEA Edinburg College Prep get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Longhorns considering their two-run performance the match before.
Alvar Flores made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, Federico Serna was a standout: he fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Ramirez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
London has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. Hebbronville's win bumped their record up to 10-7-1.
London took their victory against Hebbronville when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2. Will London repeat their success, or does Hebbronville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
