Baseball Recap: Jarrell's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Jarrell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Taylor Ducks 5-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Jordan Schwertner made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since March 1st. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Tschoerner, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Jarrell's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-14. As for Taylor, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Jarrell and Taylor will both be playing Burnet the next time they take the field. Taylor will head out to face Burnet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Jarrell will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on April 11.
