Softball Recap: South Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

South came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Shaker Heights Raiders a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Halle Zupancic was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Zupancic was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jenna Heil was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Proctor was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

South's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Shaker Heights, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South will take on Wickliffe at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Shaker Heights, they will head out on the road to take on Nordonia at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
