Softball Recap: South Granville Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

With a playoff win on the line, South Granville rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Nash Central Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Chaleigh Currin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Tiatana Bates was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Ayden Koonce was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one triple.

South Granville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher in five consecutive contests.

South Granville's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Nash Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

South Granville will host Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pam Pack have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. Nash Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
