Basketball Recap: Emmett Delp's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. John over Macksville

St. John lost against Macksville back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The St. John Tigers fell just short of the Macksville Mustangs by a score of 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered against the Mustangs since February 19, 2021.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emmett Delp, who posted 16 points. Delp's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Vieux, who put up 13 points.

Macksville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Diego Esparza, who had 25 points and seven steals. Esparza has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 20 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hector Gomez, who scored 14 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

St. John's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Macksville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

St. John didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-44 victory against Little River on the 25th. Macksville has also already played their next game, a 48-42 win against Central Plains on the 25th.
