Preview: Hanover Hornets vs. Stratton Eagles
Hanover has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Stratton Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hanover will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Stratton is ranked third).
Hanover pushed their score all the way to 35 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Genoa-Hugo at home and fell 65-35. Hanover was down 51-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Hanover might have lost, but man, David Byers was a machine: he rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also caught a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Junior Diaz, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Stratton can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Fleming, posting a 52-14 win at home. The victory was just business as usual for Stratton, who after nine games remain undefeated this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stratton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Stockton Fye, who rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns. Fye is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Another big playmaker for Stratton was Charlie Tagtmeyer, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Genoa-Hugo's win bumped their season record to 4-5 while Hanover's defeat dropped theirs to 6-4.
