Baseball Game Preview: Alamogordo Tigers vs. Valencia Jaguars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Alamogordo Tigers face off against Valencia Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Alamogordo's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Valencia has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

If Alamogordo beats Valencia with 12 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Alamogordo was the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Artesia on Thursday. The Tigers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 15, 2024.

Kade Kiss made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Brandon Williams was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Preston Eldred was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Alamogordo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Valencia posted their closest victory since March 19, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Lovington 2-1. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Horacio Romero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks.

Alamogordo's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Valencia, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Alamogordo was able to grind out a solid victory over Valencia in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 3-0. Will Alamogordo repeat their success, or does Valencia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
