Baseball Game Preview: Yelm Tornados vs. Bonney Lake Panthers

For the second straight game, Yelm will face off against Bonney Lake. The Tornados will take on the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Yelm took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Bonney Lake 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tornados have posted since March 31st.

For Bonney Lake's part, they got a good showing from Gavin Jennings, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Jennings has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bonney Lake saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Hellner, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Jayden Ortiz-Ruiz, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Yelm is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bonney Lake, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.
