Baseball Recap: Penquis Valley Takes a Loss

Penquis Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 24 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They came up short against the Stearns Minutemen, falling 18-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Minutemen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in April.

As for Stearns, they moved to 6-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

For Stearns' part, Tyler Morris and Owen Wilson were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Morris tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wilson tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Morris went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Wilson went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Morris has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Stearns got a massive performance out of Lucas Pelkey, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cohen Raymond, who went 1-for-2 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Penquis Valley has already played their next game, a 15-5 loss against Maine Central Institute on the 27th. As for Stearns, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-2 defeat against Lee Academy on the 22nd.
