Football Recap: Grant Community Comes Up Short

Grant Community came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by the Lakes Eagles 40-0. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Lakes was led to victory by Makayla Williams and Madeline Loar. Williams rushed for 82 yards and two scores, while Loar threw for 115 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of her passes. That's the most rushing touchdowns Williams has posted since back in August of 2024. Kayla Rojas made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Grant Community's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-6. As for Lakes, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Grant Community will face off against rival Wauconda at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Lakes is set to challenge their familiar foe Round Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Eagles 13.4, the Panthers 11.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
