Softball Recap: Granite Hills Comes Up Short

Granite Hills dropped down to 4-3 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hesperia Scorpions by a score of 18-17. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Scorpions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

Annabelle Gutierrez and Alina Salgado did some serious damage despite the final result: Gutierrez went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Salgado went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Salgado's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Marks, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Hesperia, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.

On Hesperia's side, Marlie Munoz was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. Those two triples gave Munoz a new career-high. Isabela Duffy was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Granite Hills has already played their next contest, an 8-5 loss against Victor Valley on the 24th. As for Hesperia, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-2 win against Burroughs on the 1st.
