Coventry has gone a perfect 10-0 against Cloverleaf recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Comets will be playing at home against the Colts at 5:00 p.m. Coventry is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Coventry is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Streetsboro on Monday as they made off with a 26-2 win. Considering the Comets have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Coventry got a great performance from Addisyn Hahn as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Rylee Hillyard and Ava Burkhart did most of the damage at the plate: Hillyard went 5-for-6 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs, while Burkhart went a perfect 5-for-5 with six runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Hillyard also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Isabella Smith was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Coventry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cloverleaf couldn't beat Springfield on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Colts might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-8 to the Spartans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss continues a trend for the Colts in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost seven in a row.
Kennedy Bailey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Cloverleaf saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyson Croft, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Coventry's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Cloverleaf, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coventry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like Cloverleaf struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coventry got the 'W' in their previous matchup on April 2nd against Cloverleaf by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
