Basketball Recap: Carenna Lewis Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Christian Community

There's no place like home for HEARTS for Jesus Christ, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Christian Community Warriors by a score of 46-34 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Guardians: when they faced off against the Warriors back in December of 2024, they had to take a 53-30 loss.

HEARTS for Jesus Christ's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carenna Lewis led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 18 boards. The dominant performance also gave Lewis a new career-high in blocks (three). Rayna Kawczak was another key player, going 6-for-12 en route to 18 points and three blocks.

Christian Community's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyla Miller, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Miller has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 21 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooke Russo, who posted seven points.

HEARTS for Jesus Christ has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.9 points over those games. As for Christian Community, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. HEARTS for Jesus Christ will face off against Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Christian Community, they will take on Temple Christian in a tournament on Monday.
