Basketball Recap: Phalen Leadership Academy Triumphs

Phalen Leadership Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They slipped by the Victory Christian Academy Lions 66-65.

Phalen Leadership Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zinan Taylor, who posted 22 points and three steals. Taylor is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. R'Mello Watson was another key player, putting up 16 points and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Victory Christian Academy lost, don't look at Gavin Whitaker. Despite the final result, he shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Whitaker's afternoon made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Quinn Jordan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Phalen Leadership Academy pushed their record up to 11-12 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.2 points per game. As for Victory Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Phalen Leadership Academy will challenge Columbus HomeSchool at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
