Soccer Game Preview: Monticello vs. Fluvanna County

The Monticello Mustangs will head out to square off against the Fluvanna County Flying Flucos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Monticello took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Orange County. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Monticello's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Orange County are ranked 147th).

Monticello hit Orange County with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Grayson Davis, Brady Davis, and Mario Johnson.

Meanwhile, Fluvanna County entered their tilt with Goochland on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Bulldogs. Give Fluvanna County's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Monticello's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those three contests. As for Fluvanna County, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Monticello was able to grind out a solid victory over Fluvanna County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Flying Flucos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
