Las Cruces took a 14-run  loss the last time they faced off against Mayfield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldawgs narrowly escaped with a  victory as the  team sidled past the Trojans  8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  win the Bulldawgs have posted  since March 1st.
 Leah Pacheco made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound,   pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off   two  hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs while going 2-for-4.
 In other batting news,  Zaysha Hawkins was  incredible,  firing off two  home runs and one  double while going 3-for-4.
Las Cruces'  victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-3. As for Mayfield, their  defeat was their first of the  season and  makes their record 12-1.
 We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Las Cruces will  take on  rival Gadsden  at 7:00  p.m.  on Monday. Meanwhile, Mayfield is set to  square off against  their familiar foe Centennial  at 7:00  p.m.  on Monday. The two teams have allowed few  runs on average (the Trojans 1.6, the Hawks 3.1) so any  runs scored will be well earned.
