Basketball Recap: Speedway Comes Up Short

Speedway lost against Cascade back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Speedway Sparkplugs took a 66-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cascade Cadets. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (58), the Sparkplugs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Speedway still got an impressive performance from Drew Matelic, who dropped a double-double on 37 points and 11 boards. The match was Matelic's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendrick Kiser, who posted five points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Speedway's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Cascade, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-7.

Speedway will take on Clinton Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Speedway is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season. Cascade has already played their next game (against Herron), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
