Basketball Game Preview: Simpson Academy Cougars vs. St. Joseph Catholic Bruins

The Simpson Academy Cougars and the St. Joseph Catholic Bruins will round out the year against one another at at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Simpson Academy sitting on 11 straight wins and St. Joseph Catholic on seven.

Simpson Academy is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Wayne Academy: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Simpson Academy blew Wayne Academy out of the water with a 67-33 final score. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 34 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for St. Joseph Catholic in a 71-53 victory over Lawrence County on Friday. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Cougars are ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Simpson Academy's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. As for St. Joseph Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.

Simpson Academy was able to grind out a solid win over St. Joseph Catholic in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 50-38. Will Simpson Academy repeat their success, or does St. Joseph Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
