Softball Game Preview: Ashland Arrows vs. Lexington Minutemen

For the second straight game, Ashland will face off against Lexington. The Arrows will square off against the Minutemen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ashland has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while Lexington will arrive with six straight wins.

Ashland's last matchup with Lexington could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Tuesday. The Arrows lost 12-2 to the Minutemen.

For Lexington's part, Makaree Chapman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Chapman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kylie Thornton was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Camryn McGuire, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Lexington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matches.

Lexington's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Ashland, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
