Basketball Game Preview: Wheatley Wildcats vs. Northside Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wheatley Wildcats challenge the Northside Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday... One thing working in Wheatley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Wheatley is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Yates just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 83-72 to the Lions.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northside). They enjoyed a cozy 71-53 victory over Scarborough on Monday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their 27-point performance the contest before.

Northside's win came from a few key players Wheatley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Braylon Williams, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Colmenero, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Northside's win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-15. As for Wheatley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-7.

Everything came up roses for Wheatley against Northside in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 110-30 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wheatley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
