Basketball Recap: Riverdale Comes Up Short

Riverdale lost against Luella back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Riverdale Raiders were outmatched by the Luella Lions and fell 88-17. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while the Lions are ranked 52nd).

Luella's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leilani Ward led the charge by going 5 of 7 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight assists and seven steals. Those 13 points gave Ward a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Baxter, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Riverdale and nudges their season record down to 3-15. As for Luella, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.

Riverdale has already played their next matchup (against Stephenson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Luella wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-44 victory against Dutchtown on the 20th.
