Basketball Game Preview: Lafayette Commodores vs. Grenada Chargers

Lafayette hasn't had much luck against Grenada recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lafayette Commodores will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Grenada Chargers at 2:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Lafayette needed a bit of extra time to put away Clarksdale. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 63-60 win over the Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Commodores have posted since November 14th.

Meanwhile, Grenada can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They strolled past Winona with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. The Chargers pushed the score to 51-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.

Grenada found their leader in freshman Joshua Guess, who posted nine points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Richard Smith, who had seven points and five rebounds.

Grenada's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-11. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.

Lafayette came up short against Grenada when the teams last played back in January of 2021, falling 62-52. Can Lafayette avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
