Baseball Recap: Coolidge Comes Up Short

Coolidge had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Florence Gophers, falling 28-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gophers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-5 back in March.

Coolidge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marc Figeuroa, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

As for Florence, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-6-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Florence's side, the team relied heavily on Ryin Leopoldino, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs Leopoldino has posted since back in February. Tanner Gammons was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coolidge will head out to square off against Seton Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Sentinels' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Florence, they will venture away from home to challenge Blue Ridge at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gophers 3.4, the Yellow Jackets 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
