Softball Game Preview: Brewer Witches vs. Brunswick Dragons

The Brewer Witches are taking a road trip to take on the Brunswick Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brewer has three straight victories, Brunswick has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Brewer beat Bangor 8-4.

Sara Young made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Paige Oakes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Jameson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Brewer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Camden Hills hit Brunswick with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Dragons lost 10-0 to the Windjammers.

Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Brewer, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Brewer took their win against Brunswick in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 17-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Witches since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
