Softball Recap: Burkburnett Wins Going Away Against Lake Worth

Burkburnett got themselves on the board against Lake Worth on Thursday, but Lake Worth never followed suit. They blew past the Bullfrogs 19-0. That looming 19-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.

Kennedy Smith and Delaney Reitz were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Smith tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Reitz pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Smith scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Reitz scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Reitz has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Lydia Duff was incredible, going 2-for-3 with seven RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Macie Call, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Burkburnett is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-16 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Worth, their loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-17.

Coincidentally, Burkburnett and Lake Worth will both be playing Bridgeport the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Bulls at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Bullfrogs will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
