Softball Recap: Dayton Wins Going Away Against Newport

Dayton's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Everything went their way against the Newport Wildcats as they made off with a 22-5 win. The Greendevils haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

McKenzie Sullivan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Sullivan was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Dayton got a massive performance out of Emily Hall, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hall has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynn Moreno, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Dayton's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Newport, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dayton will host Nicholas County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Newport, they will welcome Highlands at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bluebirds will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
