Baseball Game Preview: Botkins Trojans vs. Newton Local Indians

The Botkins Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Newton Local Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Botkins took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Houston a 6-0 shutout.

Jay Wildermuth looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Botkins: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Levi Frey was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Carter Huelsmeyer also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Newton Local posted their closest win since March 18th on Saturday. They skirted past Fulton 10-8.

Botkins' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Newton Local, their record now sits at 7-2.

Botkins suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Newton Local when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
