Baseball Recap: Booker T. Washington Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Booker T. Washington barely beat Pine Forest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 9-1 win on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Travis Bright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Booker T. Washington is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-14 otherwise.

At the plate, JJ Startzel was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Booker T. Washington: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Christian Brown, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-2.

Booker T. Washington's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Pine Forest, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Booker T. Washington will square off against Laurel Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hoboes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.7 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pine Forest, they will challenge L.E.A.D. Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.38 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
