Volleyball Recap: Gabriella Sanchez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bernalillo over East Mountain

Bernalillo was the 3-0 winner over East Mountain when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell 3-1 to the Timberwolves on Saturday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Bernalillo started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gabriella Sanchez, who had 12 digs.

East Mountain found their leader in freshman Henley Hatley, who had 27 digs and three aces. Hatley has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more digs the last 15 times she's played. Jennifer Tetreault also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Bernalillo's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for East Mountain, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.

Bernalillo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Valley on the 21st. As for East Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 defeat against Cuba on the 21st.
