Baseball Game Preview: Mallard Creek Mavericks vs. South Iredell Vikings

Mallard Creek is 0-3 against South Iredell since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Mavericks will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. Mallard Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Mallard Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over North Mecklenburg.

The team relied heavily on Andrew Brissie, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Mallard Creek's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was JeHue Alston, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Brissie wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Mallard Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, South Iredell posted their closest victory since February 26th on Tuesday. They skirted past Lake Norman 4-3.

South Iredell's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mallard Creek, their record is now 4-8.

Mallard Creek might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from South Iredell in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
