Basketball Game Preview: Kearney Bearcats vs. Lincoln North Star Navigators

The Kearney Bearcats will head out to square off against the Lincoln North Star Navigators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Kearney is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 71 points per game this season.

Kearney is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Lincoln East: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Kearney's way against Lincoln East on Saturday as Kearney made off with a 73-49 victory. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

It was another big night for Ben Johnson, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 21 points and six assists. His big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Webber, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 20 points.

Meanwhile, Lincoln North Star had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 57-48 victory over the Bulldogs. Given the Navigators' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lincoln North Star's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. As for Kearney, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.

Kearney came up short against Lincoln North Star in their previous meeting back in January, falling 65-58. Can Kearney avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
