Basketball Recap: Proviso East Comes Up Short

If Proviso East was feeling good fresh off their 57-33 takedown of Thornwood last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Proviso East Pirates were beaten by the Hinsdale Central Red Devils 63-33 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Red Devils are ranked 55th).

Proviso East's loss came despite strong showings from Camiya Marshall and Nariyah Head. Marshall went 6-for-15 on her way to 15 points and three steals, while Head posted seven points and three steals. Marshall has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played.

Proviso East's loss dropped their record down to 20-10. As for Hinsdale Central, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-7.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Proviso East will square off against Oak Lawn at 7:30 p.m. on February 18th. As for Hinsdale Central, they will challenge Plainfield Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hinsdale Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
